Immigration authorities at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) have deported a Nigerian national for contravening Malawi’s immigration laws after presenting invalid travel documents upon arrival.
According to Pasqually Zulu, the Department’s Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred this week at KIA, where the individual, identified as Richard Onyenji Nwodo, holder of Nigerian passport number B03799264, arrived on flight ET877 from France.
Zulu said Nwodo’s explanation for his visit to Malawi was unconvincing, prompting Officers to request his e-visa for verification, which was found to be invalid.
“As per Malawi’s immigration regulations, Nigerian nationals are required to present a valid e-visa for entry,” said Zulu. “Consequently, Mr. Nwodo was denied entry and instructed to return to his point of origin to reapply for a valid e-visa, pending approval.&”
The Department has since appealed to all foreign nationals who require visas to ensure compliance with entry requirements before arriving in Malawi.
Authorities have further warned that attempts to present fake or expired visas, invitation letters, or hotel reservations will attract serious consequences.
The Immigration Department has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding Malawi’s immigration integrity and ensuring that all travelers comply with established entry regulations.
