MEC clarifies complaint status amid election process concerns

Mtalimanja

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has clarified that it has not yet received any official complaints from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regarding the ongoing electoral process.

MEC Chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, explained that while some grievances have been brought forward, these have only come from individual members of the MCP rather than the party itself.

She noted that the distinction between complaints made by individuals and those submitted officially by political parties is an important one, as it determines the procedures the Commission must follow in handling such matters.

Justice Mtalimanja further assured the public that all complaints, whether from individual stakeholders or organised political bodies, will be treated with due diligence.

She emphasised that the Commission remains committed to addressing all issues in line with the country’s electoral laws, ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability throughout the process.

This clarification comes at a critical time when the credibility of the electoral process is under close watch from political players, civil society organisations, and the general public.

By reaffirming its adherence to legal procedures, MEC seeks to reassure Malawians that no concern will be overlooked and that all complaints will be handled professionally and lawfully.
