VP Usi claims Chakwera ‘captured’ by cabinet ministers amid corruption concerns

Usi

Vice President Michael Usi has alleged that President Lazarus Chakwera is being “captured” by powerful cabinet ministers.

Speaking at Dyelatu in Chikwawa District, Usi said some ministers continue to mislead the President by providing false reports aimed at diverting taxes collected from ordinary Malawians.

He asserted that Malawi cannot progress under an administration where coordinated corruption and theft occur at the highest levels of government.

Usi warned that Malawians are facing increased suffering due to rising costs of necessities, which he attributed to the incompetence and corrupt practices of senior officials.

He cited the Shire Valley Transformation Irrigation project, which was expected to be inaugurated in June, as a case of deliberate delay orchestrated by officials pursuing personal interests.

According to Usi, ministers surrounding the President are intentionally misleading him for their gains, undermining national development efforts.

He questioned how meaningful progress could be achieved in a government that allows such practices to persist unchecked.

Usi concluded that, under these circumstances, the current administration has failed to serve the needs of ordinary Malawians effectively.

Meanwhile, Chakwera is yet to respond to the latest wave of attacks from his Vice President.
