UTM presidential running mate Matthews Mtumbuka has praised the Livingstonia Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) for its unwavering role as champions and defenders of democracy in Malawi.
Mtumbuka was speaking at St. Andrew’s CCAP Church in Mzuzu during a prayer service and he highlighted the vital role the Livingstonia Synod has played since Malawi transitioned to multi-party democracy in 1994.
He also commended the Synod’s immense contributions to education and health sectors, emphasising that influential Malawians often have roots in Nkhondowe Livingstonia, a place known for nurturing great minds.
“There were times our democracy was tested, but the Livingstonia Synod stood firm to protect the values of democracy, and this is not a small achievement,” he said
In remarks, the Moderator of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, Reverend J.M. Khamisa, expressed gratitude to Mathews Mtumbuka for his humility and passion to serve the people of Malawi.
The Livingstonia Synod, based in the Northern Region of Malawi, has long been a vocal champion of democracy.
It has stood firm during critical moments of political tension and advocated for justice, human rights, and good governance.
