Hellen Chabunya condemns billboard vandalism

UTM’s Vice President for the Central Region, Hellen Chabunya, has expressed strong disapproval over what she describes as deliberate acts of political sabotage by the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

She revealed that the party is aware of the individual who was active during the night, removing UTM and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) billboards and flags in various parts of town.

According to Chabunya, the main focus of this political vandalism was Lilongwe Bwaila Constituency, an area she represents in the ongoing campaign efforts.

She emphasised that she was also personally targeted in these actions, suggesting that the vandalism was calculated to intimidate her and undermine her political presence.

Despite the provocation, Chabunya made it clear that UTM remains resolute and undeterred by such tactics.

She affirmed that the party would continue with its campaign activities with renewed determination, confident of emerging victorious in the forthcoming elections.

For her, this incident has not dampened the party’s spirit; instead, it has served as an unexpected source of motivation.

In a direct message to the ruling establishment, she reminded them that political power is temporary. “Inu a Boma ndi lomweli, do not forget that there is life after 16 September,” she cautioned.

Her words serve both as a warning and a reminder that the democratic process is bigger than any one political party, and that respect for political competition is essential for Malawi’s democratic health.
