NBM plc award spurs commitment to exemplary tax compliance

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining the highest standards in tax compliance following its recent recognition by the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).

During the MRA’s 25th anniversary celebrations held at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe on Friday, the Bank received a prestigious Certificate of Recognition for its outstanding commitment to tax compliance and invaluable contribution to national development, an honour that, according to NBM plc Chief Finance Officer Daniel Jere, carries deep significance beyond the moment.

“We are honoured to receive this recognition from MRA. It is a testament to our commitment to fulfilling our tax obligations diligently and on time,” he added. “It is a reminder that responsible corporate citizenship is not just about profitability, but about active participation in building our nation.”

Jere stressed that tax compliance is one of the bank’s core principles, and the recognition from MRA serves as a motivating force to uphold and even surpass the current standards. He noted that NBM plc has consistently posted strong financial results, translating into significant tax contributions that support Malawi’s development agenda.

“It is a testament to our commitment to fulfilling our tax obligations diligently and on time. By paying our taxes, we directly contribute to the development of Malawi, and we will continue to uphold this standard as part of our corporate responsibility.

“NBM plc pledges to maintain the highest standards in tax compliance, continuing to contribute meaningfully to Malawi’s economic growth through timely and accurate payment of taxes,” said Jere.

The Certificate of Recognition comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to boost domestic revenue and reduce dependence on foreign aid. By recognising compliant institutions like NBM plc, MRA seeks to promote a culture of accountability, responsibility, and partnership in national development.

The MRA’s 25th anniversary event celebrated the authority’s journey since its establishment in 2000 and acknowledged key stakeholders who have played a vital role in advancing Malawi’s fiscal agenda.
