The Malawi Schools’ Sports Association (MASSA) is set to host the fifth season of the Malawi Youth Games on Wednesday, 13th August 2025, in Blantyre.
MASSA President Blackson Malamula expressed confidence in the preparations and emphasized the significance of the event in nurturing grassroots talent across the country.
“Preparations have gone very well, and we’re excited to reach the grand finale of Season 5,” Malamula said. “These games have revealed exceptional talent in our schools, and this season has been a journey of growth and improvement.”
Malamula highlighted that lessons learned from past seasons have led to stronger systems, particularly in addressing age-cheating, an issue that had plagued earlier editions.
“We’ve tackled the age-cheating concerns head-on. Our vetting systems are now tighter, and stakeholders will notice a big improvement in how we manage the games,” he added. “Even logistical challenges like transport have been resolved.”
He also called on parents and the public to attend and support the young athletes.
“Most people only see players in senior teams and national squads without knowing where they come from. This is the foundation. We need parents, stakeholders, and the public to show up and support these youths, it motivates them and adds real value to what they’re doing.”
The Malawi Youth Games serve as a critical platform for scouting young talent and fostering national sports development from the grassroots level.
