Chakwera commissions Nyika-Vyaza Water Project, promises more development in Rumphi

Chakwera

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is expected to commission the long-awaited Nyika-Vyaza Water Project at Thazima, located in the area of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi District.

The water project, which was launched in April 2023, is a significant step in addressing the region’s persistent water challenges.

It is set to supply clean and safe water to over 18,000 people in Rumphi District and parts of Mzimba District.

The initiative, which cost approximately K7.5 billion, was funded by the German Government through the development bank KFW.

The project is part of Chakwera’s broader agenda to improve access to essential services and promote socio-economic development in rural areas.

Apart from commissioning the water project, the President will also hold a series of whistle-stop meetings at various centres across Rumphi District.

During these engagements, he will outline development achievements by his administration in the district and share plans for further infrastructure and service delivery improvements.

The tour is aimed at reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive development and ensuring that rural communities are not left behind.
