Kenani hails Mutharika’s commanding speech as visionary and grounded in reality

Social media influencer and political commentator Onjezani Kenani has praised former President Peter Mutharika, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate in the upcoming elections, for delivering what he described as a powerful and thought-provoking speech during his recent public appearance.

Mutharika, addressing a packed audience without notes, paper, or a teleprompter, seamlessly blended historical references, economic insights, and relatable language to build a compelling case for his return to office.

Drawing inspiration from America’s Declaration of Independence, Mutharika articulated what he called the “three core responsibilities” of any functional government, to protect life, to safeguard liberty, and to enable the pursuit of happiness.

He did not shy away from criticising the current administration’s handling of the economy. Mutharika lamented the sharp decline in living standards, rising poverty, and widespread economic frustration over the past five years.

“The people of Malawi have endured untold suffering not because of fate, but because of poor economic leadership,” he said. “Our Economic Recovery Committee has crafted a practical roadmap that can bring stability, create jobs, and put food back on people’s tables.”

Kenani, writing on his social media platform, described the former president’s performance as “an unexpected masterclass in statesmanship.”

“Peter Mutharika delivered his speech with confidence, clarity, and conviction. For a man often criticised for his age, he showed no signs of weakness. No notes, no teleprompter just pure substance and mastery of his message. He spoke like a man who knows what Malawi needs and is ready to act,” Kenani wrote.

The speech, peppered with humour and emotional appeals, also addressed key national concerns such as corruption, energy shortages, and the state of public healthcare. Mutharika reassured his supporters that under a DPP-led government, transparency and efficiency would be restored.

Political analysts say the address may mark a turning point in the DPP’s campaign, reinvigorating its base and reasserting Mutharika’s leadership credentials.
