Countdown to the DPP manifesto launch: What are people’s expectations

On Sunday, 3rd August 2025, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will launch its much-anticipated Manifesto. Malawians expect the manifesto to be a blueprint for rebuilding Malawi and restoring hope to millions.

This launch comes at a crucial moment when the country is grappling with an economic downturn, diminished civic space, rising cost of living, entrenched nepotism, and declining agricultural productivity.

The DPP should therefore present itself as a viable and prepared alternative, offering practical solutions to these pressing challenges.

At the heart of the DPP’s vision should be economic stabilisation, which should be prioritised in the first few months of governance. In this regard, Malawians expect such strategies as prudent fiscal management, foreign investment promotion, and responsible public spending, to ease the economic burden on Malawians swiftly.

Beyond immediate stabilisation, the Manifesto should outline strategic investments in agriculture to boost productivity, ensure food security, and create rural jobs.

Through the manifesto, the DPP should commit to comprehensive youth empowerment programs by recognising the youth as critical drivers of national development.

It is through skills development, entrepreneurship support, and job creation that Malawi’s youthful population can be turned into a national asset.

The Manifesto should emphasise decentralisation to strengthen local governance and ensure service delivery is responsive, people-centred and driven by the grassroots communities.

Besides, the manifesto should also touch on key thematic areas that may include climate change and environmental sustainability, disaster risk management, ICT and AI integration for a modern economy, quality education, and infrastructure development.

The party should also pledge to uphold good governance by restoring the rule of law, meritocracy, and accountability in public service.

In conclusion, the manifesto launch should signal a New era for Malawi, one that is grounded in vision, competence and integrity.

Citizens expect a practical, people-driven plan that prioritises their needs and restores dignity to every Malawian. The DPP should be ready to lead with purpose, and the launch should mark the beginning of that transformative journey.
