The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) is set to hold its annual conference this August with a focus on finding practical solutions to the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges.

The conference, scheduled for 21 to 23 August 2025 at Sun ‘n’ Sand Holiday Resort in Mangochi, is expected to attract over 1,400 delegates, including industry leaders, policymakers, and professionals from within and outside Malawi.

ICAM Director of Education and Training, Chrissy Jere, said the event which will be held under the theme; “From Awareness to Action: Catalyzing Malawi’s Economic Resilience and Sustainable Growth,” aims to move beyond identifying problems to mobilizing action.

“We are aware of the various challenges Malawi is facing, from economic pressures to governance gaps, but now we’re asking: what next?” she said. “This conference is a call to action, bringing together people with different expertise to share ideas and propose sustainable, multi-sectoral solutions that can truly work for the country.”

Jere added that preparations are underway and that the conference will feature a mix of local and international speakers, with Malawians forming the bulk of the lineup.

Meanwhile, the conference has received a boost through a K5 million sponsorship from Old Mutual Malawi, continuing a longstanding partnership between the financial institution and ICAM.

Vara Zulu, Group Chief Finance Officer at Old Mutual Malawi, said the support reflects the company’s belief in the value of professional bodies in strengthening national governance and business environments.

“By supporting ICAM, we are contributing to the promotion of professional standards, accountability, and ethical conduct, which are crucial for Malawi’s development,” Zulu said. “Strong governance structures help create an environment where businesses and institutions can thrive.”

The ICAM annual conference is regarded as one of the most influential gatherings of professionals in Malawi, offering a unique platform for reflection, dialogue, and collaboration across sectors.
