The Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) has ceased all operations across the country with immediate effect, citing a lack of operational funding from the Government of Malawi for the past three months.
In a press statement, released on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, ADMARC stated that the continued financial constraints have made it impossible for the institution to deliver its core functions. The parastatal also disclosed that all employees have gone unpaid during this period, creating serious operational challenges and a demoralised workforce.
ADMARC has instructed all its employees nationwide to stop reporting for duty with immediate effect until further notice is issued.
Adding to the crisis, ADMARC revealed that it currently has no maize stock and has not purchased any agri-food commodities to date. The statement confirmed that the corporation is not in a position to sell or distribute any agricultural produce at the moment.
This development is likely to worsen food security concerns in the country, especially for most communities that depend on ADMARC depots for access to affordable maize and other staple commodities.
Despite the suspension, ADMARC remains hopeful that the Malawi government and other relevant stakeholders will step in promptly to resolve the crisis.
ADMARC has since urged the public to remain calm and await further communication from the authorities.
