The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) University of Malawi (UNIMA) Wing has endorsed the appointment of Jane Ansah as running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Arthur Peter Mutharika ahead of the 16th September General Elections.
In a statement released by the wing’s publicity secretary, Lewis Kazembe, the group expressed confidence in Ansah’s ability to serve as the country’s next Vice President, citing her strong academic background and impressive track record in public service.
“She is highly educated, experienced, and capable of addressing the economic challenges Malawians are currently facing. Her strong curriculum vitae speaks for itself and gives Malawians confidence that the nation will be in safe hands under DPP leadership,” reads part of the statement.
Kazembe also said that Ansah’s appointment demonstrates the DPP’s commitment to inclusive leadership by promoting women into key decision-making positions, which he described as a sign of progressive and forward-looking governance.
The wing further commended Mutharika for balancing regional representation in his ticket by choosing Ansah from the Central Region and appointing Enock Chihana from the Northern Region as Second Vice President. The move, according to Kazembe, underscores Mutharika’s unifying leadership approach that puts national unity and development above everything.
The Malawi Electoral Commission is currently receiving nomination papers from various candidates vying for different positions in the forthcoming polls.
