United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi has ruled out supporting any other presidential candidate, declaring he will lead from the front in the September 16 polls.
Speaking after submitting his nomination papers on Saturday at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe, Muluzi made his intentions clear.
“As UDF leader, I want to make it clear: I’m not standing behind anyone. I’m leading from the front,” he said, putting to rest speculation over his party’s position.
He confirmed ongoing talks with other political parties over a possible alliance, but emphasised that UDF remains focused on securing victory, not playing second fiddle.
Muluzi also named Rex Kalolo as his running mate and urged police to maintain professionalism during the campaign period, especially in curbing political violence.
Calling for youth empowerment, he challenged young Malawians to take charge of the nation’s future across all sectors.
With alliances still taking shape, Muluzi’s firm solo stance could reshape the dynamics of the race.
