James Mpunga, who is aspiring to contest as a Member of Parliament for the Zomba City South Constituency under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has submitted his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Speaking to the journalists after submitting his nomination papers at a ceremony held at St. Joseph Girls Primary School in Zomba, Mpunga expressed confidence that he will win the parliamentary seat in the election scheduled for September 16.
He said that the people of Zomba City South have a great opportunity to elect a development-oriented MP who will prioritise education for the youth.
He urged DPP supporters to stand behind their beloved party and refrain from engaging in violent or disruptive campaign rallies.
On women’s empowerment, Mpunga acknowledged the challenges women face and pledged that, if elected, he would improve their lives by providing startup capital for small businesses.
Regarding sports, he promised to promote a variety of sporting activities, including boys’ football, girls’ netball, chess, pool, and more by launching competitions that will allow young people to showcase their talents.
“I have already started training young people in vocational skills such as welding, construction, and carpentry. I will also continue paying school fees for underprivileged youth,” he said.
Three political parties, DPP, UTM, and the Malawi Congress Party, are competing for the parliamentary seat in the Zomba City South Constituency.
