President Lazarus Chakwera has appealed to Malawians to grant him another five-year mandate to complete the work his administration began during his first term.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) manifesto, Chakwera outlined his vision for the next term, anchored on five key pillars: food security, job creation, wealth creation, governance reforms, and public service delivery.
The president emphasised that these pillars are designed to address the country’s most pressing challenges and to accelerate national transformation towards the goals of Malawi 2063.
Chakwera also acknowledged that not all the promises he made during his 2020 campaign have been fulfilled.
He attributed some of these setbacks to the global COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted economic activity and derailed social development initiatives.
Natural disasters, including cyclones and droughts, were also cited as significant barriers that slowed the implementation of key projects.
Despite these challenges, the president highlighted that his administration has made progress in critical areas such as infrastructure, social welfare programs, and anti-corruption measures.
Chakwera thanked Malawians for entrusting him with the leadership of the country during the 2020 elections.
He expressed gratitude for the support and resilience of citizens throughout the challenging years of his first term.
The president reiterated his belief that with a renewed mandate, his government would consolidate the gains made so far and deliver transformative results across sectors.
He concluded his address by urging Malawians to rally behind the MCP manifesto, describing it as a roadmap for inclusive growth and national unity.
