Following the Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC) launch of the 60-day official campaign period for the September 16 general elections, Albert Mbawala, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Ntcheu Central-East constituency and an influential figure in the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), is actively campaigning for re-election in the upcoming tripartite elections.
In a bold move to highlight his accomplishments, he touts significant development activities from his five-year tenure, including the initiation of 29 completed projects in the education sector.
Among his flagship projects are a fully equipped secondary school with hostels and eight teachers’ houses at Nthumbi, a maternity wing at Dzunje Clinic, and a Police Unit at Nsipe, which includes five self-contained officer houses.
Looking ahead, Mbawala has ambitious plans to establish a modern health center in Bawi if re-elected.
Moreover, despite Nthumbi School being under the Blantyre Synod of the CCAP, Mbawala played a pivotal role in its development, contributing 5% of the funding through discussions with an American donor.
In a testament to his commitment to education, he has provided bursaries for 95 students this year alone, assisting approximately 400 children over the past five years, with some successfully gaining admission to the University of Malawi.
To further enhance community connectivity, Mbawala has constructed around 20 concrete bridges, facilitating trade in the area. In addition, he has invested K20 million in local sports, sponsoring recent football and netball tournaments, which have energized the community.
Local resident Lucy Makungwa praised Mbawala’s efforts, noting significant improvements in education and security since the establishment of the Police Unit at Nsipe.
As candidates ramp up their campaigns for the September elections, Mbawala confidently asserts that he has laid a strong foundation for a lasting legacy and further development in Malawi, setting the stage for a promising future.
