Dumisani Lindani, who is vying to represent the Zomba Thondwe constituency under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has pledged to bring various forms of development to the area if elected.
Lindani made the remarks during a political rally held at Nansawa Technical College grounds in Zomba.
The rally was organised by the DPP’s Vice President for the Eastern Region, Bright Nsaka.
He claimed that Zomba Thondwe has lagged behind in development because previous Members of Parliament prioritised their own interests and neglected the needs of the people who voted them into office.
Lindani emphasised that it is time for the youth of Zomba Thondwe to be empowered through vocational training in fields such as welding, construction, carpentry, tailoring, and electrical work so that they can become economically self-reliant.
He appealed to the people of the area to vote for him in the upcoming September 16 election so that he could deliver tangible development projects.
“I urge the people of Zomba Thondwe not to be misled. If someone comes to bribe you with money, take it, it’s your tax money but don’t let that influence your vote,” he said.
Echoing his message, Bright Nsaka, the DPP’s Vice President for Eastern Region, urged attendees to vote for Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika as President and Dumisani Lindani as their Member of Parliament if they want to see real development.
He added that once the DPP returns to power, it will ensure that citizens have access to adequate food, prices of basic goods are reduced, and youth are provided with employment opportunities.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is expected to conduct the tripartite elections for the Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government on September 16 this year.
