The United Transformation Movement leader, Dalitso Kabambe, says that Malawi can prosper economically if its leaders promote the mining sector, tourism, and agriculture.
He made these remarks in Zomba, stating that in 1964, the year Malawi gained independence, the country was wealthier than China.
However, due to visionless leadership, Malawi has become one of the poorest nations in the world, with many people living in grass-thatched houses.
He noted that Malawi has a beautiful lake rich in oil, the Zomba and Mulanje mountains, national parks, and gold deposits, which could make the country wealthier than many others if fully utilised.
Kabambe, therefore, urged Malawians to vote for the UTM party in the upcoming elections on September 16 so that the country’s economy can be improved and citizens can become self-reliant.
On the matter of churches, he said many churches in Malawi are struggling financially because most of their members are poor.
He promised to ensure that churches become economically self-sufficient.
“Starting from the 16th, the UTM party will rebuild the economy of this nation so that every Malawian can live a better life,” said Kabambe.
Malawi is expected to hold tripartite elections to elect a president, members of parliament, and local councillors on September 16 this year.
