We never promised an undefeated season – Mponda

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda says Saturday’s loss to Civo Service United is part of the game and not unexpected, emphasizing that while defeats may come, his sights remain firmly set on winning the league title.

Bullets suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Civo Service United in a TNM Super League fixture played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe. The hosts took the lead in the 48th minute through John Dambuleni before Bullets levelled the score in the 56th minute via Ephraim Kondowe. However, Civo regained the lead and sealed the win with a decisive goal from Moses Banda.

Speaking after the match, Mponda acknowledged the loss and urged fans to remain calm, noting that such setbacks are inevitable over the course of a season.

“Losing is part of the game,” Mponda said. “At the end of the day, our objective is to win the title. We never said we would go the entire season unbeaten. We expect a few losses along the way, but what matters most is how we finish.”

The coach admitted his side underperformed on the day and credited Civo Service United for their spirited performance.

“We didn’t play to our usual standards, and credit must go to Civo. They worked hard and deserved the win,” he added.

Despite the setback, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets remain top of the TNM Super League table with 27 points from 11 matches. The win saw Civo Service United climbing from 14th to 11th position, now sitting on 13 points.
