Malawi is sending a 202-member delegation to the 11th edition of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, which will be held in Namibia. The team is scheduled to depart on Tuesday, July 1, via a chartered flight from Lilongwe.
According to Edgar Mtulumbwa, the Public Relations Officer for the Malawi National Council of Sports, the delegation includes 165 athletes and 37 officials, comprising coaches and team managers.
The 2025 Youth Games will take place from July 4 to 13 and will be jointly hosted in the Namibian cities of Windhoek and Swakopmund.
Windhoek will host competitions in football, netball, basketball, lawn tennis, judo, boxing, karate, volleyball, e-sports, and table tennis.
Swakopmund, on the other hand, will be the venue for swimming, athletics, para-athletics, and Special Olympics events.
Team Malawi has been preparing for the Games at a residential training camp at the Natural Resources College in Lilongwe since June 23.
This follows three earlier technical training camps focused on improving skills, strengthening team cohesion, and enhancing the athletes’ readiness for competition.
This year, Malawi will participate in 14 sporting disciplines, which include football for both boys and girls, basketball, volleyball, netball, boxing, karate, judo, lawn tennis, table tennis, swimming, athletics, para-athletics, Special Olympics, and e-sports.
Held under the theme “Own the Moment,” the 2025 AUSC Region 5 Youth Games aim to inspire young athletes to embrace the opportunity to compete, showcase their talents, and represent their countries with pride on a regional stage.
