Age is just a number, and Christina Malaya, better known as Jetu, is living proof. At 73, the legendary Malawian songstress has set the local music scene ablaze once again with her brand-new Amapiano-infused single, “Pangolin.”
Released on Monday, Pangolin is not just another comeback track. It’s a bold fusion of the ever-popular South African Amapiano sound with homegrown Malawian musical textures, delivering a refreshing blend that’s turning heads and shaking playlists across the country.
In her signature witty style, Jetu celebrates a special kind of love — one so rare and valuable that she compares it to a pangolin, an elusive and protected creature.
Part of the first verse goes: “Ndimutulutse muone Pango, katundu wa boma amunga pangolin/Ndimutulutse muone Pango, katundu wa boma alamwanu pangolin.”
Adding visual flair to the audio magic is a catchy music video directed by award-winning Malawian video producer VJ Ken, who brings Jetu’s playful energy and cultural flavourr to life, perfectly complementing the song’s upbeat vibe.
Just hours after release, Pangolin had already clocked over 66,000 views on YouTube, a staggering feat that speaks volumes about Jetu’s enduring relevance and the appeal of her genre-bending sound.
