The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is confident that its leader, Arthur Peter Mutharika, will emerge victorious in the September 16, 2025, general election.

Speaking at a political rally at Thundu Primary School ground in Zomba district, DPP’s Eastern Region Vice President, Bright Nsaka, expressed certainty that Malawians are ready for a change from the current Malawi Congress Party-led government.

Nsaka attributed the desire for change to the government’s failure to control the rising prices of essential goods, such as sugar, cooking oil, and fuel, as well as the escalation of the hunger crisis due to high maize and fertiliser costs.

He urged residents to vote for Professor Mutharika, citing him as the only hope for transforming the country.

Nsaka pledged that the DPP will reduce commodity prices, end the hunger crisis, address fuel problems, and boost the agriculture sector to increase production if voted into power.

He also announced James Mpunga as the party’s candidate for the Zomba South constituency parliamentary seat.

“We ask Zomba residents and all Malawians to vote for Peter Mutharika as President and Dr. James Mpunga as Member of Parliament, as they will bring development to the people,” he said.

DPP’s Eastern Region Governor, Daudi Chikwanje, brought hope to Zomba residents, saying that all current challenges would end on September 16 after the general election.

Mpunga, the parliamentary aspirant, expressed his readiness to serve the people with diligence and bring change through development activities that would transform lives.

The rally was attended by notable figures, including Zomba City Council Mayor Councillor Christopher Jana, DPP’s Eastern Region Women’s Director Elube Kandewu, Eastern Region Campaign Director Dumisani Lindani, Zomba Nsondole aspirant Moses Mwenye and Youth Director in the Eastern Region Steven Bamusi.
