Football fans across Africa will be glued to their screens as SuperSport prepares to deliver comprehensive, live coverage of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) from Morocco between 5 and 26 July 2025.
This 15th edition of WAFCON will see twelve of Africa’s top women’s football teams compete across five cities and six venues in Morocco. Defending champions South Africa, hosts Morocco, and powerhouse Nigeria headline the tournament, promising intense competition and memorable moments.
Though officially titled the 2024 edition, the tournament was rescheduled to 2025 due to logistical reasons but retains its original name to align with the established cycle, following the practice of other major events like UEFA Euro 2020 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Defending champions South Africa will seek to hold onto their title after their breakthrough victory in 2022, led by head coach Desiree Ellis and goalkeeper Andile Dlamini. Meanwhile, Morocco aims to improve on their runner-up finish, relying heavily on midfielder Fatima Tagnaout, the CAF Women’s Inter-Club Player of the Year.
Nigeria, the continent’s most decorated women’s team with 11 titles, will look to reclaim dominance with stars like Asisat Oshoala and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Other strong contenders include Zambia with striker Barbra Banda, Ghana, Mali, and DR Congo, all aiming to challenge the traditional powers.
Group Stage Overview
Group A: Morocco, Zambia, Senegal, DR Congo
Group B: Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Botswana
Group C: South Africa, Ghana, Mali, Tanzania
The top two teams in each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.
Besides the continental title, the tournament serves as a vital stepping stone toward qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Teams will be competing not only for glory but also for momentum heading into global qualifiers.
SuperSport’s live broadcast will provide viewers with expert commentary, detailed analysis, and multiple camera angles, ensuring fans both on GOtv and DStv follow every moment closely. Whether at home or on the move, fans across Africa will have full access to all matches.
