Mzuzu University was buzzing with energy over the weekend as youthful music sensation Eli Njuchi stole the spotlight with a high-voltage performance during the Northern Region Mo626 Intercollege Social Weekend.

The event was a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and student togetherness, a moment away from the academic stress, all made possible through the support of National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc under its Mo626 initiative.

With unmatched stage presence and crowd chemistry, Njuchi had students singing along to every song he performed. His moving rendition of ‘Ma Ine’ brought out deep emotions, with the crowd visibly touched as they reflected on the love and sacrifices of their mothers.

When he dropped his latest single ‘Kathumba’, the atmosphere lit up, especially among the ladies, who turned the chorus into a massive sing-along.

Joining Njuchi on stage were fellow heavyweights Patience Namadingo, Driemo, and 6TH, who kept the crowd on their feet as they took turns electrifying the night with back-to-back performances

Namadingo’s high-energy hit ‘Tuli’ had the crowd jumping with their hands in the air, while ‘Maury’ turned the energy inward, prompting students to sing on their knees, connecting deeply with the heartbreak woven into the lyrics.

Driemo lit up the stage with his hit Magini, a romantic favorite that had couples swaying arm-in-arm, while 6TH Mw stirred hometown pride with Pango and Muli Uthenga, striking a chord with the northern crowd.

In the other hand, top DJs; Magic, Classic, Grant, and Stephen, kept the energy among students from Mzuzu University, University of Livingstonia, Exploits University, and St. John of God College high deep into the night.

Reflecting on the weekend, Akossa Hiwa, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager at NBM plc, said the event underscored the bank’s drive to empower the next generation.

“The outcome of this event truly reinforces NBM plc’s commitment to empowering the next generation,” said Hiwa. “It’s about nurturing their potential through platforms that celebrate their talents and passions. By supporting initiatives rooted in music, art, and authentic community engagement, we are helping shape a future driven by innovation, expression, and purpose.”

Final-year Mzuzu University student Dumisani Misi later praised the sponsorship in reported remarks, saying the campus had rarely seen such star-studded performances and that memories of Eli Njuchi and Namadingo’s sets would stay with students long after graduation.
