The newly appointed Acting Director General (ADG) for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, Macloid Anamchuma Kalindang’oma, has declared a zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

During his maiden visit to the Immigration Headquarters in Blantyre on May 2, 2025, Kalindang’oma emphasized that he would not condone any form of corruption within the department.

“I am at pains to get to terms with the reality that aligns our Department as one of the most corrupt institutions for Government MDAs. Let me make it very clear here that I will not shield any officer whose conclusive investigations have revealed his/her involvement in corrupt practices.

“We need to STOP and AVOID at all costs indulging ourselves in corrupt practices. The long arm of the law will stop at nothing but to catch all officers who are involved in a cycle of corruption. I don’t condone corruption and will not condone it. Hence, I urge you to STOP corruption this minute,” Kalindang’oma said.

The ADG highlighted the department’s working relationship with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the recent signing of an MoU aimed at eradicating corruption.

The ADG also appealed to officers to put aside their differences and work together to realize the Strategic Plan, aligning with the Malawi Vision 2063. He stressed that unity is crucial for the department’s success, particularly in implementing the 2024-2029 strategic plan, which has a significant impact on socio-economic development and national security.

On promotions, Kalindang’oma acknowledged that it has been a while since officers received their deserved promotions and assured them that promotions would be based on personal performance and hard work.

Regarding uniform challenges, the ADG assured officers that the shortage would be addressed shortly. He also announced an upcoming sporting activity, the DG’s Trophy, and urged officers to start preparing for the event by making sure that they are attending all weekly sports activities to remain physically fit.
