Dausi eyeing MCP parliamentary seat for 2025

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mwanza Central Nicholas Dausi is eyeing a Malawi Congress Party parliamentary seat in 2025.

Dausi who is also DPP national spokesperson attended an MCP rally today in Mwanza, raising speculations that he is set to join the ruling party.

A video from the rally shows Dausi jovially dancing on the podium to pro-MCP songs together with Minister of Sanitation and Water Abida Mia and MCP director of Youth Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also Minister of Local Government.

In his speech, Chimwendo Banda described Dausi as a person with the welfare of his constituents at heart.

Chimwendo advised Dausi to continue his good works.

“Whether you will contest in future elections as a DPP candidate, or independent candidate or you will join us at MCP, do not stop your good works,” said Chimwendo as Dausi laughed.

On social media, pictures and videos of Dausi at the MCP rally have led to speculation that Dausi has rejoined the MCP.

However, other social media users have claimed that Dausi was only attending the rally because Chimwendo in his capacity as Minister of Local Government was launching construction of a community ground on the area.

Dausi used to be an MCP member before he joined the DPP during the administration of Bingu wa Mutharika who died while in power in 2012.
