Chitipa United have been promoted to the Malawi Super League from the Simso Innobuild Premier League after a 2-1 win over Mayamiko Stars at Base Ground in Chitipa.

The visitors took the lead through their winger Davie Tobias just 25 minutes into the game but Chitipa responded a minute later through Bright Masebo.

Masebo doubled the lead late into the second half from the spot after Alex Benson was fouled in the box.

After the game, Coach for Chitipa United Gift Nathaniel Mkamanga was in tears of joy.

“It was a tough one today but I am happy that we are back into Super League,” said Mkamanga who was in tears.

Mayamiko Tembo, Technical Director for Mayamiko Stars, described the game as tough but said they were let down by officiation.

“It was a good game though officiation has let us down. They gave our friends a penalty which was not a penalty, the league started well but the last game’s officiation was a problem,” said Tembo.

Commenting after a symbolic trophy presentation, General Secretary for Northern Region Football Association Masiya Nyasulu said it has been an exciting league which the winner has been decided with last games.

“It has been one of the most competitive leagues ever and the winner has been decided in the last game,” Nyasulu said.

Chitipa have finished with 25 points from 14 games.

Final games are expected tomorrow with Baka City hosting Mayamiko Stars while in Mzimba it will be Mzimba United against Mighty Rumphi Wanderers at Chiwanja.
