Woman, fiance arrested for stealing over K5 million in Lilongwe

Chrissy Banda aged 30 and Alfred Paul aged 31 allegedly stole US$5000 (over K5 milllion) from Banda’s employer in Lilongwe and their arrest came after Police were tippped that Paul, a kabaza taxi operator, suddenly changed his lifestyle to the extent of buying two motorcycles within a short period of time.

Kanengo Police Station police spokesperson Inspector Gresham Ngwira said Police worked on a tip, and arrested Paul on Tuesday, November 29 and seized the two motorcycles.

After further investigations, police learnt that Paul got the money from Banda who allegedly stole the money at her employer’s house in Area 18 B where she was working as a maid.

Following this, police arrested the woman the following day, November 30, 2022 during which they also recovered assorted kitchen utensils belonging to the employer who did not know about this until police called her.

Banda and Paul will appear before court as soon as paperwork is through.

Police have since advised people to be cautious when employing and entrusting house servants with some responsibilities to avoid further incidents of this nature. Police further warn the general public against receiving items from friends and relatives without being sure of the source of those items.
