Man nabbed for selling fertilizer mixed with soil at K55,000 per bag

A 38-year-old man, identified as Glasswell Kammuoneni, is in Malawi Police custody at Mponela Police Station in Dowa District for allegedly packaging and selling fake fertilizer.

Public Relations Officer for Mponela Police Station sergeant Macpatson Msadala has confirmed and said that the  incident occurred on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Mponela Trading Centre.

According to Msadala, on 25 November 2022, detectives from Mponela Police received information from Chinsinsi Chunga,26, that on November 24, 2022 he  went to Eddie Investment Shop to purchase two bags of NPK Fertilizer which were parked in ETG company sacks at the price of K55 000 each.

Upon reaching home, he found that the fertilizer granulars were mixed with soil particles.

“After receiving the report, detectives went to the said shop where 11 bags of NPK fertilizer have been seized pending assessment of the same at Malawi Bureau of Standard and ETG fertilizer company to establish if it’s a counterfeit product,” he said.

He added that the suspect will appear before court soon after investigations.

Kammuoneni comes from Kashangula village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponela in Dowa District.
