Chakwera says people in Malawi giving up easily

President Lazarus Chakwera says people in Malawi are giving up easily and that is why there is a rise in cases of suicide in the country.

The President made the remarks at Katawa Assemblies of God in Mzuzu where he attended church service.

The Malawi leader said there is place without problems and he encouraged people to be hopeful

“Keep the hope, keep the faith, God has not abandoned His creation, He certainly did not abandon Malawi,” he said.

He added that the church should counsel the youth so that suicide cases are prevented.

In Malawi, there has been a concerning in suicide cases. Police said earlier this month that 58 people – 55 men and three women – committed suicide in October . 

St John of God Chief Executive Officer said last month that it had recorded one million cases of suicidal thoughts since January.

Some commentators say some of the suicide cases are happening because people are frustrated due to worsening economic situation in Malawi.

has said the rise in cases of suicide in the country is because people are giving up easily.

He has asked Malawians to continue encouraging one another.

Chakwera who was at Katawa Assemblies of God in Mzuzu where he prayed said there is no land without problems.

“Keep the hope, keep the faith, God has not abandoned His creation, He certainly did not abandon Malawi,” he said.
