Malawian man dies after slitting his throat on bus

A 43-year-old man identified as Boyce Lloyd Gondwe has died at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe days after he attempted suicide by slitting his throat while on a Monorurama Bus coming from South Africa.

Kasungu Police Station spokesperson Joseph Kachikho has confirmed the death of Gondwe.

On Friday, November 18, , Gondwe was on a bus which was on its way to Mzuzu from South Africa.

Soon after the bus passed Chisazima Roadblock in Kasungu district, Gondwe tried to take his own life by slitting his throat with a knife.

“A person sitting next to him tried to restrain him but was bitten and assaulted with the knife. Passengers shouted for help and police officers at the road block rushed,” said  Kachikho over the weekend.

Gondwe was taken to Kasungu District Hospital and later to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he has died.
