Mobile network  operator Airtel Malawi has justified the recent price adjustment of its bundles.

According to the company, the hike is due to rising cost of doing business in Malawi, as a result of the 25 percent devaluation of the local currency.

This, has not gone well with consumers. They believe the development is ill-timed.

“Airtel should have waited for the economy to stabilize. Malawi is on its death bed,” said McDonald Kadawati Junior

Another customer said, “They raised the cost of data a few months ago. Now a few months down the line, they have done it again. No way to run.”

The bundles whose prices have gone up are Mofaya Internet bundles by 20 percent, SMS by 26 percent and voice by 20 percent. This is with effect from 9th November, 2022.

On MoFaya, the 1.1 GB daily bundle which currently costs K500 will cost K600 while the 27.5 GB monthly bundle which currently costs K10,000 will cost K12,000.
