Two people found dead in separate incidents in Mzimba

Two people aged 36 and 33 were found dead on Monday in separate incidents in Mzimba district.

The two have been identified as Emmanuel Banda 36 who was found dead in his house during the morning of October 31, 2022, at Manyamula in the district and John Mtonga aged 33 who was found hanging from a tree on October 31, 2022, at Thole Mtonga village in Euthini in the district.

Police said Banda had been going out for beer drinking from October 27 to 31 2022, and on Monday morning October 31 was found dead in his house.

Postmortem conducted by Mzimba district hospital personnel revealed that Banda died due to hypoglycaemia.

In the second incident, it is reported that John Mtonga had unsound mind, and during the morning of October 31, 2022, he took breakfast and left home at around 08:00 hours to unknown destination.

Mtonga was found hanging lifeless in a tree in the field about 200 meters away from home.

Post-mortem conducted by Health personnel from Euthini Health Center revealed that Mtonga died of suffocation secondary to strangulation.

Police in the district have since advised people to avoid taking beer on an empty stomach and to seek assistance for mental health issues.

Emmanuel Banda hailed from Longwe Kamanga Village in Traditional Authority M’mbelwa while John Mtonga hailed from Thole Mtonga Village in Traditional Authority Chindi both in Mzimba District.
