Government through the Ministry of Local Government says  Eid Ul Fitr prayers will be held on either Monday, 2 May or Tuesday, 3 May depending on sighting of new moon marking the end of the Holy month of Ramadhan.

The Eid UL Fitr holiday will  be observed on 3 May if the prayers are held on 2 May.

This has been said in a statement released yesterday and signed by Secretary for Local Government James Chiusiwa.

Chiusiwa said the advice about the dates has been communicated by the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM).

He added that if the Eid prayers are concluded on Monday, 2nd May, 2022 then this year’s Eid Ul Fitr public holiday will be observed on Tuesday, 3rd May 2022.

He then said that the general public should be advised that the announcement on the actual sighting of the new moon will be made by MAM.

Ramadhan is a month that is observed by Muslims by fasting and praying. Prayers are held to mark the end of the month.
