Speaking after being crowned champion, Chinhoi said he was happy for winning the tournament and that he knew from the beginning that he was going to make it.

“Winning this tournament means a lot to me. It was very tough, it wasn’t easy from the day one, the course was difficult the weather was too hot, but I am happy that I managed to win this tournament. From the day I arrived here when I was practising, I had a very good feeling that this week I will be the winner, the way I was hitting it and the way I planned for this tournament I knew that was going win the tournament,” said Chinhoi.

In his remarks, Seed-co Malawi Limited, Managing Director Boyd Luwe said this year’s edition was a success and they had exciting activities during the tournament which made the tournament to be more interesting and very great.

“This is the third time we are doing this. I think it has been a success on many levels. Last year we gave out 5,000 US Dollars on the Pro’s category, this year we have increased to 10,000 US dollars. In terms of participation we have included the junior category as we believe that the future of golf is in youths. In terms of total number who participated, we had about 400 rounds of golf comprising of 250 members that came in to participate and I think that’s a huge increase because last year we had about 160.

“In the Pro’s category alone, last year we only had 10 professional golfers coming in from outside and this year we had about 42 so on many levels it’s been a huge success,” he said.

He added that the tournament is taking its place on the golf calendar in the region and marketing Malawi in a very positive way.

Luwe further said moving forward, they have planned more interesting things as well as some changes that will be involved in the Seed-co golf tournament next year.

“As Seed-co, we want to make sure that at least 25 % of all revenue being generated through this tournament goes to charity so that as we enjoy the game of golf. We also want to increase playing time of the juniors this year they only played one day, we want to make sure that they play 3 days. We will also try next year to invite professional lady golfers in the region to come and join,” said Luwe.

The Seed-co Lilongwe open golf tournament teed off on Thursday 11, November 2021 and Robson Chihnoi took a lead since the first day up to the last day 14 November, 2021.

Chihnoi was seconded by Zimbabwean professional golfer Nysha Muyambo and Zambian professional golfer who came on third place. In the fourth place it was Malawian professional golfer Paul Chidale, as he failed to defend the championship which he won last year.
