Police re-arrest escapee

Police in Nsanje have arrested one of the ten people who escaped from lawful custody in the district last month.

Nsanje Police spokesperson, Agnes Zalakoma has identified the convict as a 21-year-old Peterson Fred.

Fred was convicted and sentenced to sixty months imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft in January 2021.

On  the night of January 8, ten suspects escaped from custody and Fred was among the suspects.

Therefore, Police launched a manhunt for the escapees and Fred was arrested by CID personnel following a tip from members of the public.

Meanwhile, further investigations are underway to trace the remaining escapees. Fred will appear before the court of law soon to answer a charge of escaping from lawful custody.

Fred hails from Samu Village in the area of Traditional Authority Ngabu in Nsanje district.
