…Says he knows what was inside
President Peter Mutharika says he knows what was in the plane which UTM presidential candidate Saulos Chilima used on Friday.
Chilima used the chartered plane to travel from Mzuzu to Likoma Island where he held a campaign rally.
Speaking at Njamba Park in Blantyre this afternoon, Mutharika suggested that the plane was carrying suspicious materials and persons.
“I know a plane entered Malawi yesterday without authorities’ knowledge and travelled from Likoma to Lilongwe. I know what happened. I am warning those who have brought the plane, I know who was in that plane and what was in that plane.
“I want to warn you, don’t try your luck because you will regret. Let Malawians vote freely. We should conduct elections freely without anyone rigging the elections,” he said.
Mutharika also claimed that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate Lazarus Chakwera and rights activist Timothy Mtambo have plans to disrupt his government.
He warned them that he is still president of Malawi despite dissolving his cabinet and he will go after the two if they try to carry out their plans.
Malawians will vote for president, Members of Parliament and councillors in the tripartite elections on Tuesday.
Mutharika who is seeking re-election faces strong competition from Chakwera and Chilima.
During the rally, Mutharika was confident he will emerge victorious. He said in the next five years he will continue implementing development projects such as technical colleges, roads, and stadiums with a bigger aim of alleviating poverty in the country.
