Chilima lying about DPP campaign funding – Govt

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government has rejected Vice President Saulos Chilima’s claims that it has directed parastatal bosses to fund the DPP campaign.

The government said this in a statement today signed by former Minister of Communications Henry Mussa.

Mussa says Chilima is lying

Chilima on Sunday accused the DPP government of pressurising parastatal bosses to steal K10 million each from their organisations and give the money to the DPP.

But Mussa in the statement said the claim is part of a litany of falsehoods coming from the leader of the UTM.
He said Chilima can use the Political Parties Act to demand disclosure by the DPP of its sources of funding and resources.

“We wish to bring the existence of these legal instruments to the attention of Saulos Chilima to help him establish correct information regarding sources of funding to the Democratic Progress Party (DPP).

“As long as he establishes sufficient interest before a relevant accountability institution, as the relevant laws require, he can demand for the information.

“We are volunteering this advice to Chilima because of his fabrications that public agencies are sources of funding to the DPP,” Mussa said.

He added that Chilima is threatening to fire parastatal bosses if elected to portray himself as a tough leader and also brainwash his supporters into believing that he will triumph in the 21st May 2019 elections at all costs.

“But the public is advised that if winning was as straightforward as Chilima would want to have the nation believe, he would not be sweating blood to campaign and invest heavily to market his candidacy.
“We are disappointed that Chilima is not being transformational in his approach to politics as he promised and instead has resorted to indulging in petty propaganda,” Mussa said.

He then urged Chilima to campaign on issues and not seek to spread propaganda of lies.

In the same vein, the threats against heads of parastatals with unspecified action, in the event that he takes over Government, are a desperate ploy to portray himself as a tough leader and also brainwash his supporters into believing that he will triumph in the 21st May 2019 elections at all costs.

But the public is advised that if winning was as straightforward as Chilima would want to have the nation believe, he would not be sweating blood to campaign and invest heavily to market his candidacy.

We are disappointed that Chilima is not being transformational in his approach to politics as he promised and instead has resorted to indulging in petty propaganda.

We urge him and all political parties to campaign on issues and not seek to spread propaganda of lies.
