Mutharika cancels whistle-stop tour

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has cancelled whistle stop tour which he was expected to conduct in Dedza and Salima today.

A statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) says the president wants to attend to other urgent matters.

“The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC)would like to inform the general public that due to other urgent matters that have to be done by His Excellency the President, Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, the Presidential Whistle Stop tours that were scheduled for today, Sunday, 12th May, 2019, for Salima and Dedza have been postponed,” says the statement.

It adds that the public will be informed of any future arrangements.

During the tour, Mutharika was expected to stop at Salima Boma, Katelera Trading Centre, Ngozi Trading Centre and Mtakataka.

The Malawi leader is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate in the May 21 elections.
