Having been disqualified from contesting in the presidential elections, Cassim Chilumpha has said he supports the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in the elections due in a little over a fortnight.

Chilumpha, whose party ADD was thrown out of the race by the High Court following an application by members of his Tikonze Alliance, made the post on Facebook.

The post says he believes the Lazarus Chakwera led MCP has what it takes to lead the nation.

The former Vice President has justified the move describing it as relevant in upfliting lives of Malawians.

This is the third boost the MCP has gotten after heavyweights Joyce Banda and Khumbo Kachali also pulled the strings their way.

Chakwera will face off against incumbent Peter Mutharika of the DPP, current Vice President Saulos Chilima who leads the UTM, UDF’s Atupele Muluzi, John Chisi of the UP, independent aspirant Hadwick Kaliya and Peter Kuwani of the MMD.
