Paramount Chief Lundu of Chikwawa has asked parliamentary aspirants to build houses for chiefs saying most of the traditional leaders in Malawi are living in houses which erode subjects’ respect for them.

Lundu said this during an induction service of the Bwalo La Achewa Foundation, chiefs council held in Salima.

Government has for long been promising to build houses and offices for chiefs but, not all, are being housed in decent houses despite the chiefs supporting government of the day.

Lundu: asked parliamentary aspirants to construct chief’s house

Paramount Chief Dr. Lundu said some chiefs have one or two houses built for them by government through the ruling party while others have never benefited from any, a development making them to wonder if indeed government has the welfare of all chiefs at heart.

He gave an example of a house and an office for Senior Chief Kalonga 16 of Salima who has no decent house.

The Paramount Chewa chief asked those campaigning for a parliamentary seat for Salima Central constituency to divert their money so that together they can dress the house and build an office for the Senior Chief.

His Royal Highness said government alone cannot manage to build houses and offices for each and every chief hence a great need for all those seeking votes from the electorate to come in and end their poverty.

He said Malawian chiefs are vulnerable and appealed to all those who have a helping hand to come in and assist Senior Chief Kalonga 16 of Salima.

Salima Central constituency has nine parliamentary candidates  including the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Samuel Tembenu from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP) who at the induction service for the chiefs council was the guest of honour.
