This election time gives no room for joking. For a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Governor for Mzimba Solola, a joke that he would vote for MCP’s Lazarus Chakwera has put him in trouble.

The MCP remains one top opponent for the DPP ahead of this poll.

It has accused the ruling DPP of among other things corruption and nepotism.

In a leaked WhatsApp voice note, DPP Governor for Mzimba Solola Fukafuka Mtonga made remarks that he would vote for the Chakwera led MCP because he has lost trust in the Peter Mutharika led ruling party.

However, Mtonga has told the media it was only a bad joke he had made and despite his apology to the party, he still remains on suspension.

While the suspension stands, the party says it is still probing the matter.
