Man drowns in Rumphi

A man aged 36 died on Sunday Rumphi after falling into Lunyina River the district.

The man has been identified as Active Chipaza Gondwe.

According to deputy PRO for Rumphi Police, Tupeliwe Kabwilo, the man lost balance as he was crossing a wooden bridge and fell into the flooded river which swept him away.

Police received a report about the incident and immediately they commenced a search together with community members.

The body was found trapped by mud alongside the river bank on the evening hours of Tuesday April 2nd, 2019.

Later the body was taken to Bolero Health Centre where medical workers confirmed that death was due to suffocation.

The deceased hailed from Chipitika Village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi District.
