Non-Governmental Coalition on Child Rights has called for quick action on the promotion and protection of rights of children affected by floods.

NGO Coalition on Child Rights (NGO CCR) has made an appeal to government to respect the rights of children who have been affected by heavy rains in some parts of the country.

Floods in the Southern Region

At a briefing in Lilongwe last week, NGO CCR Chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba said government and other stakeholders should not only use their resources to encourage people vote for various positions ahead of 2019 elections, but should also concentrate on children who are suffering due to floods as well as  children with albinism.

“Despite the government’s efforts towards the issue, there is still a need for immediate response on children camping in several locations of the country including maximum safety and temporary shelters of school facilities and materials because most of the children’s right to education is being violated,” he explained.

He went to say that as an organization, its main objective is to make sure that the right of children is being protected in this country.

He therefore condemned politicians for politicizing issues to do with children by giving an example of the children who are being asked to perform on the podium saying such behaviour is abusive.
