Publicity Secretary for the party Ken Ndanga confirmed this development in an interview with Malawi24 on Wednesday evening saying preparations for the historical event have taken another stage.

He also revealed that they have chosen to host the launch at Civo Stadium considering its ability to take accommodate many people at once.

“Preparations are at an advanced stage to launch our manifesto. We have opted for Civo because it has more space and our supporters who will attend this event will seat comfortably,” Ndanga said.

UDF will be represented in the elections by Atupele Muluzi as its Presidential candidate alongside veteran politician Frank Mwenifumbo as his running mate.

Muluzi, 40, who is the son to the second Malawi President Bakili is the current Health and Population Minister in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government.

This will be the second attempt for Muluzi competing for the country’s hottest political seat after he failed to attain it in the 2014 elections in which DPP’s Peter Mutharika won.

Eight presidential candidates are expected to compete in the elections coming in the next 54 days with President Mutharika seeking a second term.
