After Mlare Health Centre was closed for about a month due to infestation of bats’ urine and excreta, the health facility has now worn a new face courtesy of Karonga Central shadow Parliamentarian Frank Mwenifumbo who is also the UDF presidential running mate.

Mlare health centre management committee (HCMC) chairperson Vyanangika Mkwala said the situation has eased the pressure that was there amongst the community as health service delivery will be back to normal soon.

Mkwala hailed the shadow Parliamentarian for the donation of the iron sheets that has enabled the health workers to return to the facility which they deserted few months ago due to bad stench emanating from bats’ urine.

Mkwala said community members contributed about K315,000 for cement while Mwenifumbo coughed up K1.4 million that he used to buy iron sheets for a new roof for the facility when he learnt about the closure of the health centre that caters for a population of about 18, 500 from the 10 villages.

“We are extremely happy with this development. The closure of this facility in December last year has had a very huge negative impact to the community members more especially women who had to endure long distances to access health service elsewhere.

“But this is a relief as the service will be back to normal shortly as we are doing some final touches here and there,” Mkwala said.

However, the HCMC chair, has asked for more assistance that would go towards rehabilitation of hospital staff houses that are also in bad shape, saying there is more work to be done that needs well-wishers’ helping hands.

“We need more help as the facility does not have electricity and running water. Houses for the facility’s members of staff are also in dilapidated condition. Therefore, I appeal to all well-wishers to come in with any little contribution,” Mkwala said.

Mlare Health Centre’s closure in December affected about 18, 500 people from the 10 villages which forced traditional leaders to offer Mlare Craft house to temporarily shelter the health facility.

  1. What Tuntufye is saying is a blue lie, Mwenefumbo had done a wonderful job in maintenance of Mlare health Centre. What i know is,Tuntufye is a big supporter of Mwalwanda thus why is saying that.
The problem started when Mwalwnda was in office by then Mwalwanda was a Minister of Finance. The question comes why he(Mwalwanda) neglected to maintain the Health Centre when he was in the office? Was he waiting for Mwenefumbo to be in the office so that the supporter of Mwalwanda should criticise Mwenefumbo that he has failed to maintain health Centre while the problem in Mwalwanda tenure. It’s so pathetic to hear that
Finally it’s seems as Tuntu has grudges with Mwenefumbo. Shame on Youuuuuu

    AM A POLITICAL RESEARCHER.

  3. This is disheartening to learn. This is a twisted news. As put by my colleagues who are part to the Mlare Development Association aka Home is Best, the MP had to come in after we started taking own responsibility by mobilizing resources in order for our people get access to medication. The bonafide kids of the area from Gumi to Kasimba are still working on the final touches. If our current MP had the welfare of his people at heart it couldn’t have taken him until in the 5 year of his office tenure to buy the iron sheets because this health center has been neglected for quite sometime. One wonders how can an area of about 19,000 population’s health center having no maternity wing amidst a caring MP. The home born sons and daughters of Mlare have now taken full responsibility of their area with full support of the chiefs in the area. We will not allow cheap politics cost the lives of our Mlareans. …our next project to be undertaken is building maternity wing for our beloved parents. We will build it and we will not seek cheap coverage of our effort because the place belongs to us, let politicians seek publicity on our initiative using you the media.
