…K140m for the 2019 season…

Mzuni FC have secured a K140 million sponsorship deal from Central Health Medical Aid (CHMA) for the 2019 season.

This comes a month after Mzuzu University Council’s announcement of withdrawing support to non-student players.

According to the Nation newspaper, Mzuni FC approached CHMA to bail them out of the financial turmoil.

“The team’s management approached us with a request for sponsorship. They presented their budget and, after scrutinizing it, we felt it was an interesting area to consider. But, as a business entity, we presented to them our terms for either partial or full support. But they are yet to come back to us,” CHMA Managing Director Victor Madhlopa was quoted by the Nation newspaper.

According to Madhlopa, the team will not be told to change colors and its name, saying CHMA will just be funding the Green Intellectuals.

“We would just be funding them. The team would be operating like it was before. It is part of our responsibility, as medical insurance cover provider, to support individuals and organizations where need arises. You know that many people love football and we are optimistic that, by supporting Mzuni, we will fulfill some of our objectives,” he was quoted.

Chairperson for the club Albert Mtungambera Harawa hailed CHMA for the timely support.
