Mzuzu University Council has directed that the Super League side Mzuni should only have players who are students at the university.

The council has made the decision ahead of the 2019 season.

However, Mzuni General Secretary Donex Chilonga said the club’s executive committee will approach the university council to reconsider its decision.

“We as a committee will sit down with the council to reverse the order, if they will not listen it’s ok will accept it,” said Chilonga.

He added that dropping non-student players will affect the team’s performance next season.

Bob Longwe, Victor Gondwe, Pililani Makola, Henry Misinjo and Charles Nkhoma are some of the players who are not students.

One of the sports followers in the North Chembezi Msowoya said the move is bad for Mzuni.

“Teams like Moyale and Blue Eagles have players that are civilians, why not Mzuni?” said Msowoya.

This is happening as the team is preparing to play in the Airtel Top 8 next season.
