Murder suspects arrested, found with AK-47

Police in Mangochi have arrested two suspects believed to have killed a Greek national at Tambala Estate last year.

The two have been identified as Omar Wilson aged 29 and Mozambican national Kassim Njembo aged 32.

Mangochi police publicist Amina Tepani Daudi said Wilson and Njembo were arrested by community members at Mpesa village within Chiponde after a motorcycle they stole and rode on the material day got recognized by one of the owner’s relations.

The two were found with an AK-47 rifle serial no: RB7581 with 21 rounds of live ammunitions.

“Further investigations by the police have uncovered that the two are connected to a series of robbery cases and two murders that occurred last year,” she explained

According to Daudi, the suspected hardcore criminals together with their four accomplices  who are at large, killed Haralamosi Yiannakis (62) a Greek national at Tambala Estate and went away with K14 million cash, Samsung J6 and two iPhones.

The suspects are being investigated and will appear in court once investigations are completed.

Police in the district have since commended members of the general public for their support in fighting against crime in the district.

Omar Wilson hails from Mbere village in the area of Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi while Kassim Njembo hails from Village Ntembo in the area of Traditional Authority Matelesi, Ngauma Province in Mozambique.
